Davenport, IA, formerly of Clinton - Clara L. Bartels age 96, of Davenport, formerly of Clinton, died Monday, April 11, 2011 at Manor Care in Davenport. A Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 A.M. on Friday, April 15th at Prince of Peace Parish. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday at the Pape Funeral Home. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Tom, John, Dave, and Greg Foster, Gerry Farrell, and Bill Hertensen. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com

Clara was born in Clinton on September 6, 1914, the daughter of Frank and Mame (Simmons) Foster. She married Clyde Nissley in 1931 in Clinton, he died in 1951. She later married Herbert “Bud” Bartels in 1958 in Clinton, he died in 1987. She worked as a cashier at the Eagle Country Market
for many years. She was known as the “Pie Lady” throughout the Clinton area. She was named Mother of the Year thru the University of Iowa in 1967. She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish, Clinton Moose Lodge, and enjoyed dancing and spending time with her family and friends.

Clara is survived by two daughters, Joyce (Dr. Will) Burrow of Gray, ME and Sandi Hinz of New Windsor, IL; a step-daughter, Donna (Tom) Hueholt of Des Moines, IA; and a step-son, Jimmy (Mary) Bartels of Clinton; 11 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Yvonne Lepper, six brothers and two sisters.
