Isabel F. (Sinksen) Varney, 88, of Clinton, died Sunday, April 3, 2011 at Eagle Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Clinton.

Memorial Services will be 11:00am, Thursday, April 7, 2011 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory. Burial will follow in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 10:00am to the service time at the funeral home.

Isabel Fern Sinksen was born on October 21, 1922 in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas Christian and Dorothy (Douglas) Sinksen. She grew up and lived along her beloved Mississippi River most of her life. She married Donald W. Varney on May 9, 1941 in Camanche, Iowa; he later died on December 1, 2001.

While her husband served in the Navy during World War II, she worked at the Climax Foundry in Clinton and later at the Savanna Army Depot as a fireman on an all female fire squad. Other positions she held were: factory worker, waitress, loving farm wife, mother, and grandmother.

She was survived by her son: David C. Varney (Jackie South) of San Jose, California; a daughter: Donna (Gary) Baker of Morrison, Illinois, four granddaughters: Kerri L. Baker (Dustin Thomas), Kelli Baker-Rubio of Lexington, South Carolina, Kimberley (Mark) Martens of Morrison, Illinois, and Breanna K. Varney of San Jose, California; five great-grandchildren, two step great-grandchildren, and one step great-great granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and three brothers.

Memorials can be made to the Quad Cities Chapter of the Susan G. Komen.
