Clinton, Iowa - Carl H. Josten age 86 of Clinton died Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at the Alverno Health Care Facility. A Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 5th at Prince of Peace Parish. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday at the Pape Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Boniface Cemetery with military rites by the AMVETS. Casket bearers will be his seven grandsons.

Carl was born in Carroll, Iowa on October 16, 1924, the son of John and Frances Birle Josten. He graduated from Charles City High School in 1942. He served with the U.S. Army in the South Pacific during W.W. II receiving the American Champaign and Asiatic-Pacific Champaign medals. Carl married Bea Holdgrafer on July 6, 1946 in St. Boniface Church in Clinton. Bea died in 2000. Carl had been employed with Pillsbury and later with Hawkeye Chemical from where he retired in 1990. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish, Loyal Order of Moose and the Fulton County Club. He enjoyed following his grandsons sporting activities, golfing and pheasant hunting. Carl was a loyal Iowa Hawkeye fan before converting to the UNI Panthers to watch his grandson Jared play basketball.

Carl is survived by three children; Bob (Kathy) Josten of Webster City and their family, Trent and Kim Josten of Shueyville, IA, Blake Josten of Riverside, IA, Jared Josten of Des Moines, Ryan Greenley of Boone, IA and Erin and Jess Eide and their daughter Brynn of Ames, IA; Jane (Jim) Kerr of Iowa City and their family, Zach and Hayley Kerr and their sons, Graham and Thomas of Chanhassen, MN and Luke Kerr of Houston and John (Angel) Josten of New York City and their sons, Josh and Nick Josten of Keene Valley, NY. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a son Steven in 1983 and two brothers.
