Gene Otto

Eugene A. “Gene” Otto, 72, of Clinton died Saturday, January 22, 2011 at home. Funeral services will be 10:30am Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clinton. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00pm Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Camanche. Pallbearers will be Mark Howard, Mark McDonald, Tom Henricksen, Jody Jewell, Joe Burman, and Billy Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be all his friends from Krumpets.

Eugene Arnold Otto was born on June 7, 1938 in Clinton, the son of Archie D. and Helen C. (Turner) Otto. He was a 1957 graduate of DeWitt High School. He married Barb Blount on January 25, 1964 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clinton.

He owned and operated Gene Otto Siding for 36 years until retiring in 2000. Gene took pride in his work and always made sure his customers were happy. He loved to work in his garage. He could fix anything and would help anyone who needed it.

He enjoyed fishing, spending time on the river and having coffee with the Geritol gang down at Krumpets. He loved going to his grandkids soccer, baseball, and bowling games. Gene was an excellent roller skater and taught Barb how to skate. In exchange, Barb made Gene learn how to dance, and they danced together for the next 47 years.

He was a member of the Eagle’s Club and the 700 Club in bowling. He attended Immanuel Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife Barb of Clinton, one son: Tyson (Missy) Otto of Clinton; one daughter: Jodi (Dean Snyder) Otto of LeClaire; two grandchildren: Alexander and Kyle Otto; his mother Helen Otto of Camanche; two sisters: Phyllis (Ron) Putman of Mt. Dora, FL and Patricia (LeRoy) Langrehr of Camanche.

He was preceded in death by his father, one sister and brother in law: Joyce and Gary Hager, and twin sisters in infancy.

Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.
