Low Moor, Iowa - Donald E. Nielsen age 90 a lifelong resident of Low Moor, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Saturday Feb. 26th at the Low Moor Methodist Church. Visitation will be held Saturday 10:00 am until the service hour at the church. The Pape Funeral Home, Clinton is assisting the family. Burial will be at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com.

Donald was born on March 24, 1920 in Low Moor, IA, the son of Alvin and Ethel (Hall) Nielsen. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1937. He served with the US Navy from 1944-1946 on the ship LST1047 in the south pacific during WWII. He married Dorothea Hill on May 10, 1941 in Monticello, MO; she died in 2010. Donald worked for Elmer Hill Trucking and E.I. DuPont as a millwright for over 30 years, when he retired. He was a member of the Low Moor Methodist Church, where he served on the church council and as secretary. He was a member of the Low Moor Lions Club and the Low Moor Volunteer Fire Department.

Donald is survived by his three children, Janet Stoll of Decatur, IL, Linda Bauer of Clinton, and Ron Nielsen of Low Moor; five grandchildren, Scott, Tracy, Chris, Angela, Brian; nine great grandchildren, Marina, Jordan, Ashley, Miguel, Sam, Paige, John, Gage, Tristin; and a brother, Paul (Bernie) Nielsen of Low Moor. He was preceded in death by his parents, a great-granddaughter, Kylie in 2007, two sisters, and three brothers.
