Clinton, IA - Astrid O. Gramer age 83 of Clinton died Friday, September 10, 2010 at the Eagle Point Nursing Home. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Friday, September 17th at the Pape Funeral Home. A celebration of her Going Home will be 10:30 A.M. on Saturday September 18th at the Church of the Open Door. A luncheon at the church will follow.

Astrid was born in Clinton on June 9, 1927, the daughter of Algot and Gerda Johansen Oakleaf. She graduated from Lyons High School in 1945. Astrid married John W. Gramer on April 15, 1951 at the Community Congregational Church in Clinton. Astrid attended the Chicago School of Floral Design and later while with her husband who was stationed at Tachikawa AFB following W.W. II, Astrid graduated from the Sogetsu School of Ikebana in Tokyo. She and her husband owned and operated Gramer’s Floral Corners on Main Ave. from 1967 to 1979.

Astrid belonged to the Church of the Open Door. She was a charter member of Ikebana International at the Joslyn Art Museum in Omaha, a member of the Clinton Art Association and the American Swedish Institute. Astrid was a devoted supporter of Community Congregational Church “1 Thessalonians 5:16 er’s” Bible study and praise group and Church of the Open Door home Bible study group and community ministries. Astrid was a vocal and financial supporter of pro-life ministries such as the Pregnancy Center, formerly Crisis Pregnancy Center.

Astrid is survived by her husband, John; their daughter, Sandra Stone of Portland, OR; their son, William (Paula) Gramer of Cottage Grove, MN; nine grandchildren, William, Walter, Sandra, Pamela, Joanna, Philip, Eric, Johnny and Rebekah; a sister-in-law, Shirley Gramer of Clinton and her Godson, Joseph (Amelia) Okpanachi, PhD of Red Bank, NJ. Astrid was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Gloria Pelham. Remembrances can be made to Church of the Open Door Cambodian Orphanage Ministry.
