Evelyn M. Swanson
(December 15, 1924 to June 13, 2010)

Evelyn Mulnix Swanson, of Seal Beach, California, died on Sunday, June 13, 2010, surrounded by her loved ones. She was eighty-five years old.

Evelyn was born (Evelyn Dee Mulnix) December 15, 1924 in Clinton, Iowa, the only child of Arthur Douglas Mulnix and Grace Wallace Mulnix.

She graduated from Clinton High School in 1942. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Northwestern University at Evanston, Illinois in 1946, and a Master of Science in Education and School Administration degree from California State University at Fullerton in 1975. She took pride in being a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority, the Rainbow Girls and The Order of the Eastern Star. Evelyn attended the Methodist Church throughout her life, and with her lovely voice, often sang in choirs and chorals.

She married Charles David Swanson, on November 22, 1947, at Davenport, Iowa, and together they had four children.

Evelyn's delight in children and music inspired her throughout a wonderfully productive thirty-five year teaching career, from her early days in Dundee, Illinois (Dist. 300), to a much longer tenure in the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District of Orange County, California.

Evelyn will be remembered with abiding love, and leaves behind a legacy of life, love, laughter and learning. She is survived by her children, David (Gillian) of Livingston, MT; Stephen of Overland Park, KS; Gregory (Kim) of Marietta, GA; and Julia Buian (Nik), of Culver City, CA; six grandchildren, Eric, Heidi, Jessica, Brittany, Sarah, and Taylor, and one great grandchild, Kourtney.

The funeral service will be held Sept. 25, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Lemke Funeral Home, South Chapel, 2610 Manufacturing Dr., Clinton, Iowa. She will be buried next to her parents, immediately following the service, at Clinton Lawn Cemetery (adjacent).

Donations may be made in her name to The Humane Society.
