Murphy, 78 of 214 7th Ave. N. newspaperman for 63 years and Clinton correspondent for Davenport newspapers for 25 years prior to his retirement Aug. 1 died late Wednesday afternoon in Mercy hospital.
Regarded as the oldest working newspaperman in Iowa at the time of his retirement, Murphy had been in ill health for several months.

He spent six years learning the printing trade and in 1909 he became the city editor of the Clinton Journal. The body is in the Snyder funeral home where friends may call after 7 p.m. today. The rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the funeral home at St. Irenaeus parishoners.
