(October 18, 1917 - August 15, 2010)

Lawlor McDevitt, 92, DeWitt, Iowa died on Sunday, August 15, 2010 at West Wing Place in DeWitt.
The Funeral Liturgy will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 19, 2010 in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, DeWitt with the Rev. Paul Connolly presiding. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery at Villa Nova. Pallbearers will be Mark and Mitch McDevitt, Derek Olson, Don Wolfe, Alan Kagemann and Joe McDevitt. Honorary pallbearers will be Kyle McDevitt, Emilie and Jenna Wolfe. The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church gathering space from 4 until 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 18th, 2010. A prayer vigil, with Sr. Theresa Ann Spitz presiding,will be at 7:00 p.m.in the church gathering space. Nelson Funeral Home is caring for the family.

Lawlor McDevitt was born on October 18, 1917 to Blanche (McGarry) and Harry J. McDevitt in rural DeWitt. On September 16, 1942 Lawlor was united in marriage to Gwendolyn Harper at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in DeWitt where he remained a member until his death. Gwendolyn died on August 25, 2008. The couple farmed in rural DeWitt for many years. Lawler spent his later years employed in the parts department for Chaney Implement later known as Fuhrman Gordon.

Lawlor enjoyed the time spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He kept busy in later years continuing his woodworking hobby and taking up the game of golf at age 60.

Survivors include a son James and his wife Tammy, DeWitt, Iowa; grandchildren, Mark and his wife Colleen McDevitt, DeWitt, Iowa, Kristi Lynn Wolfe and her husband, Don Wolfe, Maynard, Iowa; great grandchildren; Derek Olson, Emilie and Jenna Wolfe and Mitchell and Kyle McDevitt; a sister, Mary Wasson, DeWitt, Iowa.

Lawlor McDevitt was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
