10/15/1921 - 7/22/2010Clinton, Iowa - Betty M. Nims age 88 of Clinton, died Thursday July 22, 2010 at Mercy North Medical Center. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Tuesday July 27th at First United Methodist Church, Clinton. Visitation will be held Monday 4 – 7 pm at the Pape Funeral Home and Tuesday 10:00 am until the service hour at the church. Burial will be at Bridgeport Cemetery in Maquoketa, IA. Memorials may be given to the church or to the family.
Betty was born on Oct. 15, 1921 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Harry and Anita (McFarland) Wakefield. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1939. She married Harold Nims on July 5, 1947 in Clinton; he died in 1989. Betty worked as a secretary for the Clinton Community School District Administration Office and Whittier Elementary School. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she volunteered in the office. She and her husband had delivered Mobile Meals in Clinton for several years. Betty was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed spending time with her family.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Anita (Randy) Mohr of Monmouth, IA and Rita (Joe) Sheffield of Jacksonville, FL; a son, Gary (Rita) Nims of Urbandale, IA; eight grandchildren, Chad, Steve, Melissa, Julie, Kyle, Elisabeth, Nathaniel, Rebecca; three great grandchildren, Emma, Chase, and Reace. Betty was preceded in death by her parents and a grandmother, Nina Wakefield whom raised her as a child. Online condolence may be left at www.papefh.com
