R. J. Guidebeck, 41, 631 Ninth avenue South, a North Western railroad fireman, died last night in Cedar Rapids while en route to St. Luke’s hospital after having been taken ill on his engine on Train No. 11 which left here at 9:55 p.m.
Guidebeck apparently was in normal health when he boarded his engine but was taken ill after leaving here. He was taken from the engine in Cedar Rapids, and placed in an ambulance but died before reaching the hospital.
Mr. Guidebeck is survived by his wife and seven children, Roland, Eleanor, Irene, Robert, Ronald, Eugene and Carol; two brothers, Vertin Guidebeck and John Guidebeck, a sister, Mrs. Myrtle Gardene, Detroit, Mich., and his mother, Mrs. Mary Guidebeck, Detroit.
He had been employed by the North Western railroad since Aug. 14, 1920, but had been on the “emergency” list and made only occasional trips in recent months.
