Jerry W. Byers, 89, of Clinton, died Friday, May 21, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center, North Campus, Clinton.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10:30am, Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the Clinton AMVETS Post#28. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Scott Byers, Jeremy Byers, Tony Byers, Patrick Byers, Bryan Rettkowski, and Jake Byers. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00-7:00pm at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory.

Jerry W. Byers was born on January 25, 1921 in Clinton, Iowa the son of Jerry and Ida (Campie) Byers. He married Alice “Patricia” Donahue on July 26, 1942 in Clinton, Iowa.

He was a 1940 graduate of Clinton High School. He later served in the United States Air Corps during World War II from 1942-1945. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross.

He was employed at DuPont for 35 years retiring as a supervisor.

He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish and a member of the Clinton AMVETS Post #28.

He is survived by his wife: Alice “Patricia” of Clinton; two sons: Michael Byers of Deforest, Wisconsin and Joseph Byers of Clinton; three daughters: Teresa (Henry) Rettkowski of Circleville, Ohio, Mary Ann (Ron) Myers of Braintree, Massachusetts, Patricia (Roger) Wilkins of Haverhill, Massachusetts ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Betty Zirkelbach of Clinton and Carol Bixby of Fayetteville, Arkansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, two grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Memorials can be made to either Prince of Peace Parish or the Alverno Nursing Home.
