Dale A. McAvan, 60, DeWitt, Iowa died on May 11th, 2010 at the University of Iowa Hospital.
Dale was born July 2, 1949 in Clinton, to Leo B. and Shirley L. (Truelsen) McAvan. He was a 1967 graduate of Elwood High School and went on to receive a degree in accounting from St. Ambrose University. Dale worked as a crane operator at ALCOA for 31 years, retiring last July. He was united in marriage to Peggy Donnelly, July 29, 1972 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt, where he was currently serving on the Parish Council. Dale also was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed farming, bowling, playing cards, golfing, anything outdoors and anything to do with his children and grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Peggy; children, Patrick and his wife, Melissa, Fairfield, Iowa; Tony and his wife, Kara, DeWitt, Nathan and his wife, Ashley, Hazel Green, Wisconsin; his mother, Shirley McAvan; grandchildren, Emily and Sarah McAvan, Madilynn, Drew and Nora McAvan and Calvin McAvan; brothers, Gary McAvan and his wife, Sandy, Delmar, and Mark McAvan and his wife, Sharon, Vinton, Iowa; his mother-in-law, Marge Donnelly, Clinton.

Preceding Dale in death were his father and an infant brother, Robert.

Visitation will be from 2 until 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Church. Father H. Robert Harness and Father Paul Connolly will concelebrate. Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, DeWitt.
