5/22/1922 - 4/28/2010Clinton - Floyd D. Griffin age 87 of Clinton, died Wednesday April 28, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center North In Clinton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, May 1st at Sacred Heart Chapel in Clinton. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday at the Pape Funeral Home and from 9:30 A.M. until the funeral Mass Saturday at Sacred Heart. Burial will be at St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery.
Floyd was born in Burlington, IA, on May 22, 1922 the son of Mathew and Elizabeth Bowman Griffin. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1940 and from Tri State College in Indiana 1947. He was a US Army Air Corp veteran serving during WWII in the Middle East, Egypt, and India. He married Elizabeth Daly on Sept. 13, 1947 in Burlington, IA. Floyd worked for the Internal Revenue Service and owned and operated Griffin Tax Services from 1978 to 1988. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish, Knights of Columbus, NARFE, AMVETS, and the Boy Scouts where he attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He was a member of the former Odeon Club where he bowled on Thursday nights with the Lyons Shoe Team. While a member of St. Irenaeus Church, he helped with the Bingo Program, the church finance council and was Scout Master. Floyd enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren and was an enthusiastic Cubs fan. He loved to tease and everyone loved his sense of humor.
Floyd is survived by his wife, Betty of Clinton; nine children, Mary (Richard) Radewan of Racine, WI, Constance Johnson of Prior Lake, MN, Nancy (Greg) Kron of New Berlin, WI, Thomas Griffin of Elgin, IL, Elizabeth (Gene) Fagan of Newark, DE , Michael Griffin of Clinton, Rita (Donald) Schneider of Clinton, Timothy (Joanne) Griffin of Fleming Island, FL , and John (Michelle) Griffin of Clinton; 27 grandchildren – Jill (Andy Cusack), Karen, Kevin (Rachel), and James Radewan, Rebecca (Terry) Swenson and Christopher Johnson, Erin (Matt) Heiniger and David (Amanda Basich) Kron, Sean and Cory (Anna) Griffin, Sean and Kyle Fagan, Mathew (Shannon), Michael Paul (Liasha), Jonathon (Chelsea), and David Griffin, Sarah (Erik) Tucker, Katie (Victor) Stepper, Joseph, Samuel, and Anne Schneider, Parker Griffin, Olivia, Elizabeth, Audrey, Irene, and Sophie Griffin; 10 great grandchildren, Alexander, Michael Paul Jr., Donovan, Logan, Kyle, Noah, Hannah, Abigail, Joshua and Ryan; a sister, Maxine Schmeig of Burlington. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Elizabeth Bittner and Mary Alice Zeller, a son-in-law, Craig Johnson and a brother-in-law Richard Schmeig.
