CLINTON — Robert V. “Bob” Thompson, 85, of Clinton, died Sunday, April 4, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center in Clinton.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at Schmitz Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brian Thompson, Chris Thompson, Adam Stache and Aaron Thompson.

Robert Verne Thompson was born on April 15, 1924, in Clinton, the son of Earl M. and Katherine (Lennertz) Thompson. He was a 1941 Clinton High School graduate. He married Evelyn J. Krava on July 28, 1956, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Clinton; she died on October 5, 1990.

He ran the machine shop for SIEG Company and also worked at Central Steel and Maquoketa Company.

He served in the Iowa State Guard as staff sergeant from 1944-1947.

He loved the outdoors, hunting, and was an avid photographer.

He is survived by one brother, LeRoy (Wilma) Thompson of Clinton; 2 nephews, David (Deborah) Thompson of Clinton and Paul (Mary) Thompson of Sherrill, IA; 2 nieces, Ann Thompson of Oshkosh, WI, and Terri Olinde of Baton Rouge, LA; and many great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
