Clinton HeraldCLINTON — William E. Deluhery, age 81, of Clinton, Iowa, formerly of Peoria, IL and Briny Breezes, FL, died Sunday, March 14, 2010, at his daughter’s home in Clinton.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 18th, at Prince of Peace Parish in Clinton. Visitation will be from 4:00 till 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 17th at his daughter’s home, 707 No. 11th St. in Clinton, IA. Additional visitation will be held Friday, March 19th, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Wright and Salmon Mortuary, 2416 N. North St. Peoria, IL, with a Mass of the Christian Burial to be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Peoria, IL with visitation at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, West Peoria, IL.
Bill was born in Dubuque, Iowa, on August 16, 1928, the son of Edward T. and Mary C. Schmit Deluhery. Bill graduated from Loras Academy in 1946 and attended Loras College. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1951 with his B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Bill was a member of the Theta Tau Engineering Social Fraternity and Pi Tau Sigma Mechanical Engineering Scholastic Fraternity. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps following high school. He joined the U.S. Naval Reserves during college and served with the U.S. Army after joining Caterpillar Tractor Company.
Bill married Diane E. Williams on May 21, 1955, in Peoria. Diane passed away on July 13, 2005.
Bill was a field service representative and later a field engineer with Caterpillar Tractor Company for over 39 years. Upon his retirement he worked special assignments in England, Hong Kong, Singapore and Columbia, South America. He was the technical advisor for the International Awarded safety film “Shake Hands with Danger” and he developed the basis for the current S.O.S. program at Caterpillar.
Bill was a member of St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church in Delray Beach, FL. He attended Prince of Peace Parish in Clinton. While living in Peoria, IL, he was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church where he served as a lector, member of the choir and Eucharistic Minister and past chair of the RCIA Program. He was a past member and president of the Special Person Encounter Christ Board of the Peoria Diocese. He was a 3rd Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus, Bishop Rosati Council. Bill was a Rector with Cursillo. He was a past member of the Willow Knolls Country Club in Peoria, IL. He was Scout Master of Troop 233 for six years. He was a member of various bowling and golf leagues in Peoria, IL and Briny Breezes. He enjoyed playing bridge with the Clinton Boat Club.
Bill is survived by a daughter, Pamela A. Deluhery of Clinton; four sons, Mark E. Deluhery of Springfield, IL, Craig E. (Gail) Deluhery of Lugoff, SC, Paul E. (Judy) Deluhery of Delavan, IL, and Douglas E. (Donna) Deluhery of Springfield, IL; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, David (Rosie) Deluhery of Dubuque, IA; and a sister-in-law, Jeanne Deluhery of Fort Collins, CO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a great-granddaughter, Angelina Mendoza of Peoria, IL, and a brother, James Deluhery of Fort Collins, CO.
