Fenton, Ill. — Donald C. “Don” Ferguson, 86, of Fenton, Illinois, died Friday, March 5, 2010, after an extended illness. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 9, at Gibson Funeral Home, Erie, with burial to follow in Fenton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Erie Evangelical Free Church Youth Program.

Don was born October 24, 1923, in Wessington Springs, South Dakota, the son of Cleveland Alexander and Edna (Bennett) Ferguson. Don was a decorated World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy. He married Joy E. Mickle on October 1, 1948, in Sterling, Illinois. She preceded him in death on November 14, 2007. He was a member of the Erie American Legion and the Whiteside County Farm Bureau. Don loved his many years in farming and enjoyed gardening and caring for his pets in his later years. The home farm was his pride and joy. He was also an avid card player.

Survivors include his children and their spouses, Shirley and Marshall Goodson, Erie; Terry and Lorie Ferguson, Erie; Barry Ferguson, Erie; Scott and Julie Ferguson, Morrison; Misty and Chuck Nixon, Clinton, IA; sister and brother-in-law, Gladys and Robert Thompson, Erie; 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by sisters, Della Gerdes, Dorothy Stamp and a brother, Harold Ferguson.
