Lifestyle EditorCLINTON — Emma F. (Mrs. LaVern “Bud”) Schmidt, 75, Clinton, died Friday evening, March 5, 2010, at home surrounded by her loving family.
The former Emma Frances Kilburg was born at Bellevue, January 16, 1935, to John and Mary (Weis) Kilburg. She married LaVern “Bud” Schmidt, September 8, 1956, at St. John Catholic Church, Andrew. The couple farmed in the rural Spragueville area for 10 years before moving to rural Clinton where they have made their home for 43 years and raised their family of 7 children. Emma was a homemaker and assisted her husband with their farm operation.
She was a member of Jesus Christ Prince of Peace Parish, Clinton, where she belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society, cooked for funeral luncheons and taught CCD. Emma loved her family dearly and cherished her many friendships. She enjoyed vacations, dancing, gardening, collecting recipes, crocheting, baking, and special times with her grandchildren. She was a devout wife, mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed.
Surviving are her loving husband of 53 years, Bud; 7 children, Rodney (Cindy) Schmidt, Clinton; Barb (Tom) Trenkamp, Preston; Suellyn Rogis, Clinton; Joan (Larry) Roling, Preston; Karolyn (Doug) Henningsen, DeWitt; Duane (Annette) Schmidt and Don (Karen) Schmidt, Clinton; 21 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Addie (Bernard “Red”) Kutsch, Elsie Moeller, Mary (Julius) Reuter, John (Sharyl) Kilburg, Lorin “Bill” (Karen) Kilburg, Mike “Wayne” (Lois) Kilburg and Janice (Bill) Portz; numerous nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law and their husbands.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son-in-law, Greg Rogis; grandson, Carl Roling; a brother, Norman Kilburg; a sister-in-law, Darlene Kilburg; a brother-in-law, Felix Moeller; and mother- and father-in-law, Mary and Clarence Schmidt.
Visitation will be from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 8, 2010, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Clinton, with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 9, 2010, in the church. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Home, South Chapel, in charge of arrangements.
