CLINTON — Gilbert L. Paysen, 96, of Clinton, died Friday, March 5, 2010, at Bickford Cottage.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 11, 2010, at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 4 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home where a 7:00 p.m. Rose Croix service will be conducted. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bryon Burgess, James Whitney, Gary Paysen, Terry Otto, Rodney Paysen and Jim Lee.

Gilbert L. Paysen was born on March 7, 1913, in Goose Lake, IA, the son of Peter M. and Eureka (Marccusin) Paysen. He attended rural Clinton County schools. He later attended tractor school in Kansas City, KS, in 1936. He married Mary C. Sturtz on July 23, 1960, in Camanche; she died on February 22, 2010.

He owned and operated Paysen’s Garage for many years; retiring in 1973. He was a 50-year member of the Clinton Scottish Rite Bodies and the Western Star Lodge #100 A.F.&A.M., and was also a member of the KAABA Shrine. He was an antique enthusiast, a John Deere collector and regularly attended the Old Thrasher’s reunions in Mount Pleasant, IA.

He is survived by two nephews, Leonard (Bernice) Paysen of Goose Lake and Delbert Paysen of DeWitt; and many great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, 5 sisters and 4 brothers.
