CLINTON — John W. "Jack" Tigh, 84, of Clinton, died Friday, February 19, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center, North Campus, Clinton. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2010, at Zion Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery with military honors being conducted by Clinton AMVETS Post 28. Serving as pallbearers will be Dean Petersen, Doug Castenson, Charles Taylor, Matt Carter, Ryan Carter, Alex Heppner, James Smith and Jim Hargrave. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory. John William Tigh was born on July 10, 1925, in Clinton, Iowa, the son of John W. and Clara (Thompson) Tigh Sr. He married Florence Boyle on April 19, 1948, in Clinton; she later died on November 15, 1991. He later married Rita C. Petersen on October 24, 1992, in Clinton. Jack was a 1944 graduate of Lyons High School. He later served in the United States Navy during World War II serving in the South Pacific, Japan, and the Philippines. Jack was a salesman at McEleney Motors for over 30 years, retiring in 1990. Jack was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, an over 60-year member of the Clinton AMVETS and the American Legion, the 25 year club at McEleney's and the L.S.M Military Ship Association. He enjoyed gardening, cooking on the grill and going to his ship reunions. Jack is survived by his wife:, Rita, of Clinton; one daughter, Lisa (Charles) Taylor of Clinton; one stepson, Dean (Doug Castenson) Petersen of Waterloo, Iowa; two stepdaughters, Lora Heppner of Clinton and Susan (James) Smith of Sandwich, Illinois; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife and two sisters. Memorials can be made to Zion Lutheran Church or Mercy Hospice.
