CLINTON — Walter E. Schmitz, 76, of Clinton, passed away Sunday, February 21, 2010, at Genesis Medical Center West Campus. Funeral services will be Thursday, February 25, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at Lemke Funeral Homes with Pastor Dan Brockett officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 24, 2010, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lemke Funeral Homes, South Chapel. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Walter Peahl, Walter Hartman, Joel Peahl, Patrick Malone, Cody Schmitz, Joshua Schmitz, Sidney Harris and Derrick Johns. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ron Ashmore and Marion "Beech "Beecher Jr. Walter was born December 19, 1933, in Clinton to William and Cora (Westgate) Schmitz. He worked at Champion as a Printing Pressman Operator, and retired in 1996. He married Darlene Hayton in June 1953 in Clinton, Iowa. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and truly loved his grandchildren. He is survived by 4 daughters, Kathlene (Dennis) Boekeloo of Clinton, Sheryl ( Richard ) Jacobsen of Clinton, Bonny (Tim) Wiersema, of Albany, IL, Rebecca "Becca" (Ron) Ashmore of Clinton; 18 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Bill (Betty) Schmitz, of Clinton, Richard Schmitz of Missouri; 2 sisters, Pearl (Junior) Baker of Couderay, Wis., Mary (Simmon) DeMarr of Couderay, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews.
