MILLEDGEVILLE, Ill. — Glenn M. "Doc" Hess, 82, of Milledgeville, died Thursday, February 11, 2010, at his home.Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 16, 2010, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. The Rev. Len Meinema, pastor of Bethel Christian Reformed Church, Fulton, IL, and the Rev. Russell Gordon, pastor of The Brethren Church of Milledgeville, IL, will be officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, February 15, 2010, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Interment will be in Fulton Township Cemetery, Fulton, IL. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society and Hospice of the Rock River Valley. He was born June 26, 1927, in Sterling, IL, to Milton and Katie (Nunemaker) Hess. He was educated in the rural Carroll County grade schools and graduated from Lanark High School in 1945. He married Maxine J. Wessels on April 16, 1949, in Nashua, IA. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.Glenn farmed his entire life in the Chadwick and Mount Carroll areas, retiring in 2003. After retiring, Glenn worked for the Milledgeville Park District for a few summers. He was a member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church of Fulton and Carroll County Farm Bureau. Glenn enjoyed recycling and creating things that would make life and farming easier. He loved to play card games and games that involved a lot of thought. Glenn was an avid bicyclist, enjoying long country rides. Survivors include his wife, Maxine; one daughter, Janet (Rick) Baumgardt, Chadwick, IL; three sons, Gene Hess, Chadwick, IL, Greg Hess, Savanna, IL, and Bruce (Michele) Hess, Byron, IL; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Moran, Prescott, AZ, and Mrs. Gladys Lindsay, Rockford, IL; two brothers, Harold Hess, Byron, IL, and Wayne (June) Hess, Franklin, IN.He was preceded in death by one son, Jeffrey Scott Hess; four sisters, Grace Mundt, Velma Schafer, Mildred Hoak, Esther Hess; three brothers, Orville, Raymond and Mervin Hess.To send online condolences go to www.bosmarenkes.com.Death date: Feb. 11, 2010
