CLINTON — Mary Lou Hoffman, 79, of Clinton, died Friday, February 19, 2010, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2010, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandchildren. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory. A rosary and vigil service led by her children will be held Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Mary Lou Anthony was born on December 29, 1930, in Clinton, the daughter of Chester M. and Florence B. (Missel) Anthony. She married Phillip J. Hoffman on July 2, 1949; he died on November 8, 2008. Mary Lou was a 1949 graduate of St. Mary's High School. Mary Lou had been employed as a receiving clerk with Van Allen Department Store and Osco Drug store until her retirement in 1980. Mary Lou and Phil owned and operated Philou's Ceramics in Clinton for over 25 years. Mary Lou was a member of Prince of Peace Parish and Auxiliary, was a member of the Jayceettes and was past vice president of the Iowa State Jayceettes. She was a Girl Scout leader from 1957-1965. Mary Lou is survived by two daughters, Carol Ann (Michael) Johnson of Marshalltown, IA, and Janice Marie (Robert) Neisslie of Clinton; one son, Robert Alan (Bonnie) Hoffman of Evergreen, Colorado; eight grandchildren: Michele Guidebeck, Lake Johnson, Lee (Betsy) Hoffman, John Paul Johnson, Clint (Danielle) Guidebeck, Ryan Hoffman, Adam Johnson and Catherine Johnson; 4 great-grandchildren: Ashley Council, Payton Nicol, Sarah Guidebeck, and James Johnson; and one sister, Betty (Kenneth) Vogel of Clinton. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband; one brother, Richard M. Anthony; and her parents. Memorials may be made to Prince of Peace Building Fund, Masses or Mercy Dialysis.
