CAMANCHE — Evelyn R. Edleman, 89, of Camanche, passed away Sunday October 4, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center North. Funeral services will be 4:00 p.m. Wednesday at Lemke Funeral Homes, South Chapel, 2610 Manufacturing Drive. Pastor Ryan Carpenter will be officiating. Visitation will be 2 p.m. until the service time on Wednesday. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Camanche Public Library. Evelyn was born August 26, 1920, in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Clifford and Ida (Smith) Gregory. Evelyn graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1938. She also graduated from Clinton Academy Of Beauty. Evelyn married Lyle Edleman May 2, 1939, in Nevada, Iowa. He passed away in 1976. Evelyn owned and operated Evies Beauty Salon in Clinton for many years. She cherished her 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She was the founder of the Maquoketa Genealogy Society, active with the Clinton Genealogy Society; she loved NASCAR Racing, Word Search Puzzles and playing Free Cell on her computer. She was also an avid reader, wrote beautiful poetry and truly loved Christmas. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Jerry Ann (John) Strothman, of New London, Iowa; 2 sons, Richard (Judy) Edleman, of Sun City, AZ, and Bruce Edleman of Camanche; 3 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; and 1 brother, Jack Gregory of Maryland.
