CLINTON — William Young Simmons, 89, of Clinton, IA passed away at home on Tuesday, September 22, 2009. Visitation will be held from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. on Monday, September 28, 2009, at Lemke North Funeral Home, 2304 N. 2nd St. Funeral Services will follow the visitation at 12:30 p.m. the same day. Pastor Leona Williams will be officiating. Burial will be in Rock Island Arsenal Cemetery. William Simmons was born February 23, 1920 in rural Mississippi. Mr. Simmons was a cab driver for 53 years for Simmons Cab in Chicago, IL. He attended school in Chicago. He moved to the area from Chicago 5 years ago. He enjoyed his hunting dogs and hunting. Mr. Simmons served in the Army from 1941 to 1943. Survivors include a son, Milton Simmons; several grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred Hill of Oak Park, IL; and Ruth King of North Carolina; several nieces and nephews and a host of cousins; and a special niece, Cassandra (Anderson) Jackson with whom he resided with.
