CLINTON — Chris S. Martensen, 85, of Clinton, died Thursday, August 27, at his home. A memorial service is being planned for 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 1, 2009, at Zion Lutheran Church, 439 Third Ave. South, Clinton. Visitation will be Monday, August 31, 2009, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Lemke Funeral Homes, South Chapel, 2610 Manufacturing Dr. Pastor Jennifer Henry, from the Zion Lutheran Church, will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Mercy Hospice. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Cremation rites have been accorded.Chris S. Martensen was born December 16, 1923, to Paul and Marie (Paulsen) Martensen in Brekstadt, Germany. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1941. He was united in marriage to Helen Rajcevich on June 8, 1947, in Clinton. Chris proudly served his country in the United States Navy, he was on active duty in all engagements on the USS Swanson during World War II, he served from 1942-1945. He owned and operated the Carlson Paint and Wallpaper Store, retiring after 20 years. He worked for Bell Decorating in Chicago and was an Independent Paint Contractor in Clinton, he loved his family and enjoyed fishing, golf, traveling, loved to watch sports and socialize with people. Chris was a trustee and usher for several years with Zion Lutheran Church. He belonged to the VFW, AMVETS and Eagles Club. He also was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.Survivors include his wife, Helen of Clinton; 3 daughters, Sandra (Steve) Rickertsen of Charlotte, IA; Susan Pearson of Aledo, IL; Michelle Martensen of Colorado Springs, CO; 1 son, Drs. Michael (Carol) Martensen of Colorado Springs, CO; 10 grandchildren, 4 great–grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, 2 sisters-in -law and 5 brothers-in-law.
