OTTUMWA — Louis Hendren, 81, of 502 S. Ferry St., died at 6:50 p.m. August 19, 2009, at Hospice House in Ottumwa.He was born February 12, 1928, in Monroe County, MO, to Louis and Lillie Van Skike Hendren. He married Phyllis Bray September 7, 1947.He served in the Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was the manager for Tip Top Distributing, and a sales representative of Phillip Carey Co., retiring in 1973. He was also a real estate investor.He was a member of First Pentecostal Assembly of God and Good Sams. He enjoyed dogs, refurbishing autos and camping.Surviving is his wife, Phyllis; five daughters and one son, Sandy (Larry) Payne of Ottumwa, Nancy Carter of Clinton, Kathy (Leonard) Porter of Camanche, Michael (Teresa) Hendren of Columbia, MO, Bev (Steve) Creamer of Ottumwa and Connie (John) Hopwood of Bloomfield; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; six sisters, Fern Williams, Roberta Lies, Dena Bloodsworth, Lucille Marlow, Sue Nicholson and Sharon Lang.He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Vern Hendren; and a sister, Dixie Pherigo.Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First Pentecostal Assembly of God in Ottumwa with Rev. George Edgerly and Rev. Ed Matthews officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery with military services conducted by O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars.Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Pentecostal Assembly of God or Hospice House, P.O. Box 1150, Ottumwa, IA 52501.Death date: Aug. 19, 2009
