DEWITT — Dorothy Elizabeth Vrba, 91, of DeWitt, Iowa, died on Thursday, August 20, 2009, at Genesis Medical Center, DeWitt, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, August 24, 2009, 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with the Reverend James J. Vrba officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Family will greet friends and family on Sunday, August 23, 2009, at St. Joseph's Gathering Space from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be her six grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials go to St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Dorothy Elizabeth Vrba was born in Low Moor, Iowa, on November 25th, 1917, the daughter of Charles and Georgia (Pullen) Galitz. She married James John Vrba in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, DeWitt, Iowa, on August 27th, 1945, and they shared 64 years of marriage together. She has been a member of St. Joseph's and was actively involved in the Altar and Rosary Society as well as many church activities. She always took pride in her family welcoming each new member with loving kindness and generosity. Dorothy loved nature and animals of every kind and she was an avid gardner. She enjoyed writing poetry, winning an award for her literary creation, "Gift of Life."Those who will keep her in their loving memory are her husband, James J. Vrba, DeWitt, Iowa; daughter, Sandra Diercks, Urbandale, Iowa; sons, the Reverend James J. Vrba, St. Mary's Parish in Wilton, Iowa, and Daniel C. (Tina) Vrba, DeWitt, Iowa; six grandchildren, John Diercks, Albia, Iowa, Elizabeth "Beth" (Tim) Welch, Yale, Iowa, Ann (Jason) Goemaat, West Des Moines, Iowa, Sara Woolley, Waukee, Iowa, Tonya Vrba, University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa, and Christopher Vrba, DeWitt, Iowa; and 6 great-grandchildren.
