CLINTON — Sister Mary Jane Hopkins, OSF, age 72, of Clinton, died Sunday, June 21, 2009, at the Alverno Health Care Facility in Clinton. A Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10: 30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 24th, at The Canticle. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at The Canticle where a rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. and a Scripture service at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be in St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery. Casket bearers will be relatives, friends and members of the Sisters of St. Francis. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting. Sister Mary Jane was born in Ida Grove, Iowa, on October 24, 1936, the daughter of James and Lazetta Konradi Hopkins. Mary Jane attended Blaine Township, Ida Grove and Cook Township Elementary Schools, and graduated from Galva Consolidated High School in Galva, Iowa. Sister Mary Jane earned an A.A. degree from Mt. St. Clare College, Clinton, a B.A. degree from Marycrest College, Davenport, Master in Education Degree from DePaul University, Chicago. She completed CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) at LaCrosse, WI, and Des Moines, IA. Sister Mary Jane joined the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Francis, Clinton on September 8, 1961, and took her final vows on August 12, 1967. She taught in elementary schools in Perry, Lidderdale and Denison, IA, in Chino, CA, in Oak Lawn, IL, and was principal in Chicago Heights, IL. She was in hospital ministry at Mercy Hospital, Des Moines, for 25 years, most recently as lead cashier. She moved to The Alverno in February 2009 due to ill health. Sister Mary Jane is survived by two brothers, James Francis Hopkins of Wall lake, IA, and Joseph Raymond (Susan) Hopkins of Burnsville, MN; a sister, Margaret Teague of Wall Lake; and nieces and nephews.
