CLINTON — Werner L. Steege, 90, of Clinton, died Thursday, June 18, 2009 at his home. Funeral Services will be 11:30 a.m., Monday, June 22, 2009 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Michael Holm officiating. Burial will be in the Springdale Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Tom Kane, Don Rice, Daniel Kane, John Kane, Neil Williams and Brett Williams. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Robert Pillers, Jon Pillers, Paul Steege and Craig Steege. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to the service time at the church. The Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Werner Leroy Steege was born on September 26, 1918 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Roy and Ida (Drews) Steege. He married Helen J. Hansen on May 27, 1942 in Clinton; she died January 21, 2004. Werner was a 1936 graduate of Lyons High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army from 1941-1945 serving in World War II in France. Werner was employed at DuPont for 36 years as the coating supervisor. Werner was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church; a church that his parents were among the charter members. Werner is survived by two daughters, Carol (Thomas) Kane of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Diane (Don) Rice of Freeport, Illinois; five grandchildren, Daniel Kane, John Kane, Neil Williams, Brett Williams, Alicia Williams, and 3 great-grandchildren, Caila Williams, Nita Williams, and Aiden Williams; his brother, Milton (Georgia) Steege of Fulton, Illinois, and several nieces and nephews. Werner was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his brother, Elmer Steege, and his sister, Lucille Pillers. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer`s Association.
