CORONA DEL MAR, Calif. — The family of Dr. Gerald Evers have announced his death on May 28, 2009, at their home in Corona Del Mar, California. Dr. Evers was born in Clinton, Iowa, and entered the military from that state. During WWII, he served with C company, 506th PIR, 101st Airborne. He became the youngest man to promote to Captain during that time. He enrolled at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, where he completed his undergraduate studies and medical school. After finishing an internship, he opened a medical practice in Whittier, California. Initially, Dr. Evers was on the medical staff of Beverly Hospital, St. Jude Hospital, Murphy Memorial Hospital and Whittier Hospital. When Presbyterian Hospital opened, it became the primary facility for hospitalized patients. Dr. Evers served in many capacities at the hospital, including as Chief of Staff and on the Board of Directors. At the time of retiring from thirty-two years of active practice, the Los Angeles Board of Supervisors honored him and his outstanding dedication to the medical community. Entering the field of education, he was an associate professor of clinical medicine at UCI School of Medicine. Dr. Evers is survived by his wife, Barbara; six daughters, Beth Evers, Mary Enders, Ann Myrick, Ellen Phelan, Emily Ziebell, Margaret Wight; two brothers, Robert of Sterling, IL, and J.J. of Albuquerque, NM; as well as fourteen grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Pacific View Mortuary in Corona Del Mar. A rosary will be said on Thursday, June 4th, at 7:00 p.m. The funeral Mass will take place on Friday, June 5th, at 12:00 p.m. Both events will take place at Our Lady Queen of Angels Church, 2046 Mar Vista Dr., Newport Beach, CA.
