CLINTON — Maurice E. "Brownie" Brown, age 84, of Clinton died Friday, June 12, 2009, at the Eagle Point Nursing Home in Clinton. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, June 15, at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. on Sunday at the funeral home and from 10:00 A.M. until the service time Monday. Burial will be in St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery with military rites provided by the Clinton AMVETS. Casketbearers will be Roy Griep, Jim Brown, Marty McClimon, Dennis Brown, Jim Baresel and Wayne Sattler. Memorials may be given to the family. Brownie was born in Batavia, Iowa, on November 4, 1924, the son of Claude and Margery Liggett Brown. Brownie graduated from Burlington High School in 1945. He served with the U.S. Army during W.W. II. He was involved in the battle of the Philippines and the occupation of Japan. Brownie married Jessie Sattler on July 24, 1949 in Burlington. He worked with photo lithography with the National Research Bureau while in Burlington. After moving to Clinton he was employed with Pinney Printing until retiring in 1987. Brownie was a member of the Burlington Eagles Club, the Clinton AMVETS and a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose. He enjoyed bowling at the Clinton Recreation Lanes, drawing and painting, and following the Cubs. Brownie is survived by his wife, Jessie; a daughter, Carolyn (Al) McClimon of Clinton; three grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two brothers; Victor Brown of Burlington, IA and Dennis (Maxine) Brown of Freemont, IA and a sister, Margery Bryan of Ottumwa, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents.Death date: June 12, 2009
