ST. CHARLES, Ill. — Joyce Ann Jacobsen Laster of St. Charles, passed away peacefully April 19, 2009, at her home from a 31⁄2-year battle with cancer. According to her wishes, a private family memorial service will be Saturday, April 25, 2009, at Ascension Lutheran Church in Goose Lake. Also a memorial service is planned in St. Charles. Joyce was born August 24, 1950, in Clinton, IA, to Alvin and Gladys ( Schult) Jacobsen. She received a BA degree in business education from the University of Northern Iowa and a Masters in business from Iowa State University. She taught at Bondurant-Farrar and Muscatine schools, later as a software trainer with Future Now Computer consulting and Tri-Zetto Group as instructor and consultant, also technical writer. With her jobs she traveled all over the United States. Since her cancer, she was a volunteer at the Delnor Hospital and nursing homes visiting and reading to patients without families. She married Tom Laster on February 18, 1995, in Lake Tahoe, California. She is survived by her husband; parents; two stepsons, Jeremy of Indianapolis, Ind., and Stephen of Davenport, IA; one sister, Karen (Jim) Bruhn; four brothers, Dennis, David, Mark (Peg) and Loran (Teresa) Jacobsen; six nieces and nephews; one great-niece; Godmother Esther Baasch, Godfather Ray Schult; and also her very special "J" friends. She was the author of an amazing family history of her parents and family. She was active in the IL Sierra Club and cared for rescue dogs.Death date: April 19, 2009
