Gerald J. Ilg (June 12, 1927 - April 2, 2009) BETTENDORF — Gerald Joseph Ilg, 81, died on Thursday, April 2, 2009, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa. The son of Edward and Margaret (Ludwig) Ilg, Gerald was born June 12, 1927, in Otter Creek, Iowa. On October 16, 1952, he was united in marriage to Jeanette Wagner at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, LaMotte, Iowa. They farmed for ten years in the Grand Mound/Calamus area. Gerald had worked two years at the DeWitt Hospital in maintenance. He retired from C and J Farm Service after working there for 30 years. Gerald was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt; Catholic Golden Age, Clinton County Farm Bureau and the Parkinson's Group, Clinton, Iowa. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandson. He also enjoyed doing crafts and puzzles. Surviving are his wife, Jeanette, DeWitt; children, Janice Ilg, Aurora, IL, and John and Sheryl Ilg, Clinton, IA; grandchildren, Jacqueline Ilg, Cedar Rapids, IA, Keli and Curtis Ilg, Clinton, IA; great-grandson, Travis Klancher, Clinton, IA; sister, Darlene Ilg, DeWitt, IA; and brother, Melvin and Beverly Ilg, DeWitt, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Wayne Ilg. The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. Sunday, April 5, 2009, with a vigil service at 6:00 p.m. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 6, 2009, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt, with the Rev. Fr. H. Robert Harness presiding. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Larry Ilg, Lindy Ilg, Paul Ludwig, Dean Geise, Bill Bauer and Ronnie Steward.
