SABULA — Jerico (Jerry) N. Haiar, age 74, of Sabula, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at Eagle Point Nursing Home, Clinton, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 13, 2009, at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Sabula, Iowa. Burial will follow in St. Peters Catholic Cemetery, Sabula, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home. Online condolences and tributes may be given to the family at www.lawjonesfuneralhome.com. Jerico was born May 29, 1934, in Hurtsville, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Catherine (Weisler) Haiar. He married Beverly Paisley on September 18, 1954, in Sabula, Iowa. He was a lifelong resident of Sabula and served as the town's police officer on a part-time basis for several years. He also worked at Allied Structural Steel in Clinton, Iowa, for twenty-seven years retiring in 1984. Jerico enjoyed spending time outdoors; hunting, fishing and watching wildlife. He loved spending time with his ten great-grandchildren. Jerico is survived by his wife, Beverly, of fifty-four years; two sons, Jerry (Nancy) Haiar of Camanche, Iowa, and David Haiar of Sabula; a daughter, Barbara Johnson of Sabula; six grandchildren, Kurt (Mary) Haiar of Davenport, Iowa, Jill (Brian) Zimmerman of DeWitt, Iowa, Catherine (Jimmy) Weispfenning of Clinton, Iowa, Carla Zavala of Camanche, Mary Ann Johnson of Camanche and Jarrod Haiar of Davenport; ten great-grandchildren; two brothers, Isadore (Maxine) Haiar of Maquoketa, Iowa and Richard Haiar of Bellevue, Iowa; three sisters, Gladys Stokesberry of Bellevue, Iowa, Rose Taplin of Clinton, and Martha Robinson of Murray, Kentucky; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jerico was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Cindy; three brothers; two nieces and a nephew.Death date: April 8, 2009
