Martin Ahrndt 05/12/2002 DeWITT, Iowa -- Mr. Martin E. Ahrndt, DeWitt, died Friday afternoon, May 10, 2002 at home.Mr. Ahrndt was born August 3, 1922 in Scribner, Neb., to the late Charles and Theresa (Kramer) Ahrndt. He served his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II. On May 14, 1944, he married the former Serena Patzer at Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt. Martin farmed and then worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation as a maintenance worker until retirement. His wife preceded him in death on Aug. 2, 1989. He then married the former Joyce Scott on Nov. 25, 2000.Martin was a faithful and active member of Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt, where he served on the Board of Education, served as an usher, served as an elder for nine years, served on many church committees and the board of Grace Towers, and was a volunteer at Grace Lutheran Camp. Martin loved to read, travel and take pictures. He was a jack of all trades and especially excelled in carpentry. He was loving husband, father, and grandfather, and practical jokester with his grandchildren.Surviving are his wife, Joyce; a son, Kenneth Ahrndt and his wife Darlene, Monticello, Iowa; a daughter, Kathy M. Dietsch, Altoona, Iowa; a brother, Anton Ahrndt, Hooper, Neb.; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, eight stepchildren, and 20 step-grandchildren.Besides his wife and parents, Martin was preceded in death by a daughter, Karol Ann Krueger; a granddaughter, Regina S. Dietsch; a brother, Karl; and two sisters, Sophie and Minnie.Friends may call at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2002. Service of Christian Burial 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt. The Rev. Keith Speaks officiating. Interment at Davenport Memorial Park.
