IOWA CITY — Bruce Leo Beasley, 86, of Iowa City, died Saturday, December 13, 2008, at Mercy Hospital. Memorial Mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick’s Parish Hall with the Very Reverend Rudolph T. Juarez officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Coralville. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Ave, Iowa City, with rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a parish vigil starting at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a general memorial fund has been established. Bruce was born on March 14, 1922, in Iowa City, IA, to Leo and Helen (Patterson) Beasley. Bruce was a graduate of St. Patrick’s High School and attended Iowa City Commercial College. He served in the Army during World War II. Bruce married Katie Jenkins DeArmond in Cedar Rapids, IA, on December 17, 1955. Bruce was employed by Carl Chadek Trucking and John Steven’s Trucking. He later became the manager of the Knights of Columbus, when they were located in downtown Iowa City, and also served as the Financial Secretary for the organization. For many years he was employed at the University of Iowa in the bio-chemical department, retiring in 1983. Bruce was a member of St. Patrick’s Church, the Knights of Columbus Marquette Council, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion, where he has been a member for over 61 years. Bruce was an avid golfer, gardener and sports fan, especially the Hawks, the Chicago Bears and the Cubs. He enjoyed cooking, but not dishwashing.Bruce is survived by his wife, Katie, of Iowa City; a son Bruce (Jane) of Clinton and their children, Katelynn and Danny; stepson, Arthur DeArmond (Eileen) of North Liberty and their three daughters, Michelle Baumgartner (Bill) and Melanie DeArmond both of California and Maureen DeArmond of Peoria; one great- granddaughter, Gabrielle of California; five sisters, Jane Hanrahan of Iowa City, Mary Ellen (Richard) Steninger of Cedar Rapids, Florence Hagen of Ankeny, Nellie Sindelar of Ely, Nevada, Cathy (Duane) Anderson of Iowa City; and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, George, Herbert, Arthur, Francis; and one sister, Mary Ranada Miller.
