GODFREY, Ill. — Charles A. Basden, 90, died at 7:37 a.m. Thursday, December 18, 2008, at V.I.P. Manor in Wood River. Born July 25, 1918 in Murphysboro, IL, he was the son of Charles and Mary (Logue) Basden. He was a retired plaster and painting contractor and was a member of the Abundant Life Community Church in Alton. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors. On June 18, 1937 in St. Louis County, he married the former Margaret Eloise Cummings. She preceded him in death on November 4, 2008. Surviving are two sons: Lynn Basden and his wife Sandra of Camdenton, MO, and Richard Basden of Clinton, Iowa, and Linda Basden of Michael, IL; four grandchildren: Traci Basden of St. Peters, MO, Kelli Robertson of Edwardsville, Jonathan Basden of Highland and Margaret Leise of Lockport; nine great grandchildren: Taylor and Clay Goodman, Noah and Kyndall Robertson, Cole, Lia and Caitlin Basden and Haven and Eden Leise. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; five brothers: Jim, Joe, Guy, Howard and Frank Basden; and his sister, Ruth Hancock. Visitation will be from 2:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday. Burial will be at Upper Alton Cemetery.
