CAMANCHE — Mervin D. “Merv” Woodin, 66, of Camanche, died Wednesday, November 12, 2008 in Camanche. A Celebration of his Life will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, November 16, at the Imperial Lanes Bowling Alley in Camanche. Cremation rites have been accorded at the Snell-Zornig Funeral Home. Mervin Dean Woodin was born on February 5, 1942, on farm near Ware, IA, the son of Pirl Edward and Esther Hixson Woodin. He was baptized and raised in the United Methodist Church. He lived on farms in the Ware and Laurens areas until they moved into the town of Laurens, IA in 1954. He attended the Ware and Laurens schools, graduating from Laurens High in 1960. He graduated with a BS in Business Administration in 1965 and a Juris Doctor in 1968, both degrees from the University of South Dakota Vermillion. He was a lifetime member of the South Dakota Law Review. During his early years of law practice he obtained a degree in accounting and a CPA. He came to Clinton in 1972 where he worked as Clinton County’s Assistant County Attorney until 1978. He had his own law practice in the Clinton and Camanche areas for 36 years. He was an Advising Attorney for the Camanche Schools Mock Trials Teams from 1995 to 1999. He loved Judo, jogging, fishing, hunting, trapping as a boy with his father and gardening — especially tomatoes for his family and friends and pumpkins for his grandkids. He was preceded in death by his father in 1993, and his mother in 2007. He is survived by his wife Nora, their two children: Shane (Jenny) Eversoll of Camanche, and Cari Leigh (Jeff Stroud) Eversoll of Clinton; three grandsons: Jay William Eversoll, and Nicholas and Jeffery Stroud; one sister, Carol (Quentin) Mayberry of Reinbeck, IA; three nieces, Christi (Eddie) Gansen and family of Janesville, WI, Susan (Marc) Hines and family of Ottumwa, IA, and Tracie Mayberry of Chicago, IL. In lieu of flowers, a trust fund has been established for Merv’s grandchildren.Death Date: Nov. 12, 2008
