MORRISON, Ill. — Clarence “Colonel” Meurs, 84, of Morrison, died Saturday, November 22, 2008, at Resthave Nursing Home, Morrison, IL. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 26, 2008, at Morrison Christian Reformed Church, Morrison, IL. The Rev. David Weemhoff, pastor of Morrison Christian Reformed Church in Morrison, will be officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 25, 2008, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Interment will be in Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison, IL.Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. He was born March 21, 1924, in Long Island, KS, to Elmer and Nellie (Verhoef) Meurs. Clarence was educated in the rural Luctor, Kansas, grade schools. He married Alfretta R. Engelkens on February 17, 1949, in Morrison, IL. She survives. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran. He was engaged in farming in the rural Morrison area his entire life. He was a member of Morrison Christian Reformed Church; served several terms as deacon and elder. He also was a member of the founding board of the Resthave Nursing Home, Morrison, IL.Survivors include two daughters, Cindy (Craig) Hoogheem of Morrison, IL, and Gayle Meurs of Fairbanks, Alaska; two sons, Eugene Meurs of Morrison, IL, and Alan (Shelley) Meurs of Morrison, IL; seven grandchildren, Michele (Jeff) Workman, Chris (Amber) Hoogheem; Jarrod Meurs, Waylon (Sarah) Meurs; Kayla, Kendra and Kyle Meurs; five great-grandchildren, Jaeden and Chase Workman; Anandi Hoogheem; Molly Meurs; Gaige Meurs; three brothers, Henry Meurs of Fulton, IL, Wayne (Lois) Meurs, Canon City, CO, and Raymond (Alva Jean) Meurs, Fulton, IL.He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Geneva Stuart; and two brothers, John Meurs and Edward Meurs.To send online condolences go to www.bosmarenkes.com.Death date: Nov. 22, 2008
