CLINTON — Robert “Bob” Klahn, age 62, of Clinton, died Sunday, November 2, 2008, at Mercy Living Center North in Clinton. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 4th, at the Pape Funeral Home with a celebration of Bob’s life beginning at 7:00 p.m. conducted by Ray Hilgendorf. Bob was born in Clinton on August 8, 1946, the son of William and Millie Gaarde Klahn. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1964 and received his AA degree from Clinton Community College. Bob married Allene Scott on August 14, 1966, in Clinton. While in high school Bob worked at Phillips 66. During college, Bob drove a school bus and worked at Collins Flower Shop. He joined the Iowa National Guard, was sworn in by his father, a National Guard officer, and completed basic training at Ft. Dix. He served with the Guard for six years. Following basic training, Bob returned to Clinton and went to work at Elmwood Dairy. After six years with Elmwood, Bob became a salesman for Electrolux. Seventeen years later he opened Clinton Vacuum Center, which he operated for 20 years before failing health forced him to retire in 2007. Bob was a member of the former Odeon Club. He enjoyed bowling and boating. He was an avid swimmer and water skier. He belonged to the Ski Daddlers and was known to swim across the Mississippi to spend time with Allene. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears, UNI Panthers and the Hawkeyes. Bob is survived by his wife, Allene; a daughter, Tamara (Steve) Lodge of Andover, MN; a son, Scott (Kristine) Klahn of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Karah, Lauryn, Kieran and Brady; two sisters, Patty (Louie) Ronnfeldt of Camanche and Ellen (Peter) Scarano of Clinton; three brothers, his twin, Bill (Ann) Klahn of Clinton, Dan (Debbie) Klahn of Clinton and Tom (Kathy) Klahn of Camanche; and nieces and nephews including his godson, Matt Klahn.
