FULTON, Ill. — Charles J. Medenblik, 80, went to be with his Lord and Savior at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, IA, on Saturday, October 18, 2008. Services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Fulton officiated by Rev. Len Meinema, Pastor of Bethel Christian Reformed Church. Burial will be in Fulton Township Cemetery, Fulton, IL with casketbearers being Derek Bajema, Tyler Holesinger, Mark Medenblik, Eric Medenblik, Jonathan VanDyk, and Caleb Homan. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 21, 2008, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. A memorial to Unity Christian Schools and Bethel Christian Reformed Church has been established by the family. Charles was born on September 22, 1928, in Driesum, Friesland, the Netherlands to Julius and Eleanora (DeVries) Medenblik. He was educated in the Netherlands and served with the Dutch Army in Indonesia. He immigrated to the United States in 1949. Charles married Hilda Boskma on August 01, 1956, in Morrison, IL. They were blessed with fifty-two years of marriage. Charles began work as a mason with John R. Balk Masonry of Fulton, IL. In 1974 he purchased the business, renaming it Charles J. Medenblik and Sons, and continued the business until his retirement. During the years, he employed not only sons, but nephews and grandsons. He was a charter member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Fulton, where he served as an elder and deacon. He also served on the school board of the Community Christian School in Fulton. There was a twinkle in his eye as he watched his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren fill his home. They, along with his wife, were his greatest accomplishment and joy. Charles is survived his wife, Hilda, and their six children: Jan (Randy) Bajema of Fulton, IL, Julie (Steve) Holesinger of Dyer, IN, Jim (Renae) Medenblik of Fulton, IL, Elden (Lisa) Medenblik of Fulton, IL, Elaine (Randy) VanDyk of Manhattan, MT, and Charlene (Kelly) Homan of Rolla, MO; twenty-five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; Three sisters: Dorothy (John) Salverda of Fulton, IL, Edith (Dale) Schaver of Fulton, IL, Iola (Elwyn) Newendyke of New Boston, MO; Three Brothers: Lambert (Martha) Medenblik of Rock Hill, SC, Bill (Mary) Medenblik of Fulton, IL and Ron (Evelyn) Medenblik of Fulton, IL.
