CLINTON — Mary L. Nelson, 81, of Clinton, died Thursday, October 23, 2008, at the Alverno Nursing Home. Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m., Sunday, October 26, 2008, at Saint Paul Lutheran Church, Clinton. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons and nephew. Visitation will be Saturday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory. Mary Louise Nelson was born on September 2, 1927 in Galesburg, Illinois, the daughter of Harold T. and Eunice (Velander) Nelson. Mary Lou was a 1945 graduate of Galesburg High School. She also attended Knox College in Galesburg and graduated from Galesburg Cottage Hospital Nursing School in 1950. Mary Lou was a registered nurse at Mercy Medical Center for 15 years, and worked with Dr. Wagner for two years. Mary Lou was a member of Saint Paul Lutheran Church where she was active as a lay reader and altar guild, Delta Delta Delta Sorority, Tri-S Women’s Club, Mercy Auxiliary, and enjoyed playing golf at Valley Oaks. Mary Lou is survived by two daughters: Nancy (Jerome) Kedley of Clinton, and Janet (Marc) Zylstra of Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin; one son: Dr. Jeffrey (Jane) Nelson of Cottage Grove, Minnesota; six grandchildren: Christopher Nelson, Thomas Nelson, Sarah Nelson, Nicholas Zylstra, William Zylstra, and James Kedley, one sister: Margaret Landis of Clinton; a niece: Anne Owen and a nephew John Landis; and a special companion Dean Tufford, of Clinton. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents. Memorials can be made to Saint Paul Lutheran Church.
