CLINTON — Fritz T. Colschen, 86, of Clinton, passed away Thursday, October 16, 2008, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 19, 2008, at Lemke Funeral Homes-South Chapel, 2610 Manufacturing Drive, with Pastor Dennis Glew officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will be at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Fritz Theodore Colschen was born in Clinton on May 31, 1922, to Fredrick William Theodore and Esther Emily (Huber) Colschen. He was a 1940 graduate of Clinton High School. Fritz served in the U.S. Army in the 546 Battalion for George Patton. He married Donna J. Mundy in Clinton on July 22, 1948. Fritz started Gateway Supply in 1977. He was a member of the Ball Club from 1961 to 1976, AMVETS, VFW, National Association of Professional Baseball Players, American Legion and enjoyed traveling. Surviving Fritz are his son, Fredrick “Thomas” (Dorcas) Colschen of Clinton; grandsons, Timothy Colschen of Clinton and Kevin Colschen of Iowa City; two brothers, David C. Colschen of TX and Richard C. Colschen of Clinton; and a special niece, Joy Smith of Pittsburg, PA. Fritz had a special place in his heart for all his nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his wife, Donna; parents, four sisters and four brothers. A memorial has been established for Camp Courageous out of Monticello, Iowa.
