CLINTON — Carl Cousins, 95, rural Clinton, Iowa, died Saturday evening, October 4, 2008, at the Alverno Health Care Facility in Clinton. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 8, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Clinton. The Rev. Michael Holm officiating. Burial will follow at Elvira Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 7, 2008, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt.William Carl Cousins was born February 22, 1913, in rural Eden Township, Iowa, to William George and Helen Jepsen Cousins. He was the fourth of five children. Carl attended elementary schools in Malone and Low Moor graduating from 10th grade in Low Moor in 1928. He attended Clinton High School for two years and graduated from there in the spring of 1930. Carl married Margaret L. Christiansen on November 24, 1938, in Cedar Rapids. She died in 1969. He then married Kathryn Schaefer Small in January of 1971. Carl farmed in Low Moor and Elvira areas his entire life. He was also employed for several years in the office of Curtis Companies, Inc. and Bennett Lumber Company in Clinton. He was a member of Elvira Zion Lutheran Church for many years. While a member there, Carl served on the Church Council, Lutheran Brotherhood Board and was a member of the Elvira Zion Bowling Team. Following his marriage to Kathryn, Carl became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Clinton, where he served as a church elder. Carl was a member of the Clinton County ASC committee for many years. He also served on the Elvira Cemetery Board and the Cousins-Smith Cemetery Committee. Carl was an avid Cubs and Iowa Hawkeye fan. He and Kathryn enjoyed attending dances and travelogues in DeWitt. He enjoyed hunting, bowling, dancing, golfing and playing baseball. He had been a member of the Low Moor Independent Baseball Team and participated in Cross Country at Clinton High School. In addition to his first wife, Margaret; Carl was preceded in death by his parents, sisters and brothers, Sarah Dannatt, Doris Helble, Aaron Cousins and Tom Cousins. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Marek Parszewski, New London, Wisconsin, and Jeanne and Allan Rogis, rural DeWitt; a grandson, Toby Smith, Oconomowoc, Wisconsin; three granddaughters, Tammy Parszewski, Appleton, Wisconsin, Carla (Kerry) Taylor, Ankeny, Iowa, and Sara Rogis, Pontiac, Illinois; a great-granddaugher, Brianna Parszewski, Appleton; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be left for the Victory Center in Clinton, Trinity Lutheran Church or the Central Education Foundation, DeWitt. Condolences may be expressed at schultzfuneralhomes.com.
