Dallas Armentrout, Pioneer Attorney At DeWitt, Dies
(BY LONG DISTANCE PHONE.)

MECHANICSVILLE – Dallas Armentrout, 90, lawyer and resident of DeWitt for sixty years, died here at the home of his nephew, Dallas McKibben, at 8 p.m. Saturday after a brief illness.

Mr. Armentrout practiced law at DeWitt from the time of his graduation from the University of Iowa law school in 1874 until he retired seven years ago. He was president of the fair association there for eighteen years and was mayor of the town during his early years of residence, during which the waterworks plant was built.

He was born in Richland county, Ohio, on Dec. 21, 1844, the son of Jacob and Mary Armentrout. After spending six years in Cosico county, Indiana, the family came to Iowa in 1853, settling at Mason’s grove six miles south of here. Mr. Armentrout was one of twelve children. His survivors include one brother, Albro Armentrout of Mechanicsville, twelve nieces and twenty-nine nephews. He was a member of the Masonic lodge for sixty years.

Funeral services will be held at the Horner funeral home here Tuesday at 2 p.m.
