CLINTON — Marian H. Werner, age 88, of Clinton, died Tuesday, September 23, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center North in Clinton. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 26th, at the New Hope Lutheran Church, 401 N. 4th Street, in Clinton. The Rev. Michael Brewer will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Pape Funeral Home, 2308 Pershing Blvd., Clinton. Additional visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the service time Friday at the church. Burial will be in the Miles Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Paul Von Sprecken, Dean Yaddof, Mike Massey, Paul Franzen, Mike Bergren, Jim Edman, Mike Hunter, Mike Chekal, Jeff Silton, Gary and Nels Carlson and Steve and Mark Werner. Marian was born in Goose Lake, Iowa, on November 20, 1919, the daughter of Herbert and Orpha Bratthauer Werner. She went through 8th grade at the North Andover Country School. She helped her parents farm the family farm until moving to Dubuque in 1944 where she became the kitchen matron at Wartburg Seminary. In 1969, Marian received her GED and went into nursing. She was an LPN at Jane Lamb Hospital in Clinton for 16 years retiring in 1985. Since her retirement, Marian was active for over 20 years with the Gateway Area Red Cross. Marian was a member of the New Hope Lutheran Church where she was a member of WELCA and was active with Bible study. She enjoyed baking and cooking. Marian is survived by three sisters, Vera (Eldon) Yaddof of Camanche, Ramona (Glen) Von Sprecken of Maquoketa and Irene (the late Norman) Nielsen of Clinton; a brother, Clarence (Judy) Werner of Morrison; and nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and a brother-in-law. Memorials may be made to the Gateway Area Red Cross or Camp Courageous.
