Elwood.

Mary-Elizabeth Whitsell was born near Bellevue, Jackson county, Iowa. Feb. 16, 1864, and died at Green Gables Sanatorium, Lincoln, Neb., Aug. 10, 1917, aged 53 years, 5 months and 12 days. She came with her parents when five years of age to Elwood, Clinton county, Iowa, and located on a farm 1-2 mile northeast of town. On Feb. 27, 1889, she was united in marriage to George E. Laugham of Elwood and to them were born three children, two little daughters dying in infancy. Those who mourn her loss are her devoted husband and one daughter, Elsie, of Anderson, Iowa. Two sisters, Mrs. Nancy Sadler of Correctionville, Iowa. Mrs. Martha Leinbaugh of Kingsley, Iowa, and one brother, John, of Epworth, Iowa. June 1916, they moved from Stanley, Iowa, to Anderson, Iowa, where Mr. Lanham is engaged in the banking business. They built them a beautiful home, everything being made as comfortable as possible for her, but since February, she had been in poor health and all that medical aid could do, was done but with little success and having continued to grow weaker, it was deemed best to remove her to a Sanitarium where she could receive skilled attention. She was taken there Aug. 9, and was there only to awake to be with her Saviour and loved ones in Heaven. Mrs. Langham was a thoroughly Christian woman, a kind and loving wife and a tender and forgiving mother. One of her favorite passages in the bible was, “Blessed are they that do his commandments that they may have a right to the tree of life and may enter in through the gates into the city.” The home is made vacant by one most dearly loved. May her Savior, help us to live such lives that we will meet her in Heaven.
