CLINTON — LaVern J. Elkins, age 78, of Clinton, died Thursday, July 3, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center North in Clinton. Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the Pape Funeral Home in Clinton. A private family service will be on Monday. Burial will be in St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery with military rites by the AMVETS. LaVern was born on February 13, 1930, in Jackson County, Iowa, the son of Floyd and Martha Henneke Elkins. He married Dolores Krogman on June 30, 1955, in Clinton. He served with the U.S. Army in Korea during the Korean War. LaVern was employed at Collis Company in Clinton, retiring in1992 after 30 years of service. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish. LaVern enjoyed fishing. LaVern is survived by his wife, Dolores; four sons, David (his wife, Debbie) of Clinton, Brian (his wife, Dawn) of Clinton, Michael (his wife, Barbara) of Palatine, IL, and Thomas (his wife, Lori) of Clinton; five granddaughters, Heather, Amy, Amanda, Whitney and Amber; two great-granddaughters, Michelle and Madison; a sister, Lois Watters of Maquoketa, IA; and a niece.
