Robert Hugunin
1916 - 2003

Robert William Hugunin, 86, Camanche, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at his home in Camanche.
Robert William Hugunin was born July 10, 1916, to William and S. Elizabeth (Jurgensen) Hugunin in Granite Falls, Minn. He married Berdea Thiede on March 22, 1944, in Preston.
He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving from 1941-45, attached to the Navy’s First Construction Battalion.
He was employed as a millwright at E.I. DuPont, Clinton plant, retiring after more than 33 years.
Robert was a charter member of Camanche Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he was president of the church council and was a Luther League Sponsor. He was a Mason and member of Camanche Lodge 60 AF & AM, he made master Mason in 1948 and in 2001 was recognized as the oldest past Mason of Lodge 60 AF & AM.
Robert was in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Arkansas in 1935 and 1936. He was proud of his service to his country in the South Pacific in the Navy’s First Construction Battalion. He and his wife, Berdea, enjoyed attending the See Bees reunions every year.
His civic involvement included Sea Scout Leader, Camanche City Council, Camanche Volunteer Fire Department and Coaching with the Camanche Little League.
Robert enjoyed hunting with his son and friends and was an active member of Ducks Unlimited. Robert especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and watching the river and the bald eagles.
Visitation is 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday at Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig-Dennis A. Lemke Funeral Home & Crematory, where a 7:30 p.m. Masonic Blue Lodge Service will be conducted by the Masonic Lodge 60 AF & AM.
Cremation rites will follow the visitation.
Memorial Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Camanche, with the Rev. Brad Miller officiating.
Serving as casket bearers will be Roberts grandchildren, Morgan Campshure-Scott, Graham Campshure, Erich Hugunin, Noah Metzger, Ellis Hugunin, Nathanael Metzger, Austin Stoltz, and Samantha Metzger.
Inurnment will be Tuesday at Rose Hill Cemetery, Camanche, where full military rites will be accorded.
Memorials may be made to Camanche Immanuel Lutheran Church or to Mercy Hospice.
Survivors include his wife, Berdea Hugunin, Camanche; three daughters, Beth Ann (Ken) Campshure, Fon du Lac, Wis., Boni (Bill) Hugunin Stoltz, Camanche, Brenda (Mark) Metzger, Camanche; a son, William (Rhonda) Hugunin, LeClaire; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Charles Peter (Pat) Hugunin, Aurora, Colo., and Thomas Earl (Elenore) Hugunin, Montecito, Calif.
His parents preceded him.
